Modern Impressionist Artists Developing Their Personal Styles

By Juliette Cruz

One of the most modern art movements today is impressionism as its roots come only from the 19th century. The name of this style comes from the famous painting "Impression" by Claude Monet. Though the beginnings of this style are from France, there are many international modern impressionist artists, each bringing their own unique style.

Hailing from Ukraine is Lena Kurovska. She has studied at the National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture - Ukraine. Her paintings have been influenced by the works done by other prominent impressionists. However she still prefers to focus on still-lives and landscapes. Her works can be found in galleries throughout the United Kingdom and Ukraine. However most of her creations are displayed in private collections.

Marcus Krackowizer studied as an engineer and businessman later following his real passion as an impressionist. He currently makes his living from sales of his own work, which are oil paintings done on canvas. He is also developing a new technique by painting a coat on prints to bring out original brush strokes. This process works best when the original artwork is textured.

Painting with oils is what called Sila Velez. An architect coming from Columbia she found her adult self living in a different county. The expat life has helped her find and develop her own true style.

Samir Sammoun originated from a small Lebanese mountain village. He left his homeland for Canada at twenty one years old to study telecommunications and engineering. Presently he still finds himself painting the beautiful Mediterranean landscapes of his early years.

Colley Whisson focuses on painting light and its effect on the desired subject or object. As a 3rd generation Australian he didn't start his career as an artist but began a year after working as a picture framer. He has individual exhibitions worldwide and writes for many different magazines and is mostly credited for writing his book 'Creating Impressionist Landscapes'.

Raquel Taraborelli takes her inspiration from nature and flowers, and also from Claude Monet. Like many other modern impressionists she didn't begin her art career as a painter. She studied engineering at university but began painting at the young age of 17.

The following artist is an American raised in upstate New York. Growing up there Patrick Gorman Pettis had access to the natural colors of nature drastically distorted by short summers and cold winters. He creates and uses his own dyes and paints from various substances.

John Shave. Having lived most of his life in the land down under, this artist presently lives in England. He has been published by the Australian Artist Magazine and has been awarded many awards by various institutions. His paintings can only be described as taking a photo from a specific moment of time. He currently teaches at many locations and his artworks are on display worldwide.

There are many renowned modern impressionist artists from around the world and these were only a minuscule amount. Traditionally this style uses thin and small brush strokes containing an accurate description of the available. It should be noted that many artists push these boundaries. Just like other art forms, this movement still changes and evolves with each of the previous artists contributing to it's evolution.
