The play of board games has always been the most well-loved source of entertainment specifically for family gatherings. It does not only give enjoyable activities but at the same time, it helps you to improve your cognitive ability and memory performance. And if not the best but perhaps its the most well-known board game. Absolutely most of us know the rules in playing it. However, few of you might want to know about where did chess originate.

Its considered as one of all the earliest form of amusement to date. This game was first developed in India which was later passed on to Persia ( commonly known today as Iran). The boards were crafted creating Persian pieces. But, as of now in present time, there are still no artifacts being identified relating to the earliest sets of chessmen. With high optimism, in the coming days of archaeological research, some relics would at last be found.

The game later on was developed by the Arabs after their invasion in Persia. Afterwards, this well-known board game reached the entire Southern Europe. The enormous growth of the beloved game in Europe somehow made several modifications. During the nineteenth century, matching competitions in this game were first created. And by the twentieth century, World Chess Federation was formed. During the twenty-first century, because of technological progress, computers were incorporated to help in coming up with game analysis. This is also the beginning of online games Era.

In as early as the sixth century during the Gupta Empire in India, gaming boards and sets were already introduced. During that period, it was popularly called as Chaturanga. It refers to the four divisions of the armed forces: infantry, elephant, cavalry and chariot. The chessmen positioned on the board namely the knight, bishop, rook and pawn symbolizes the said pillars of the military.

The big Persian Empire was vastly known for its progressive trading all over the territory. It was highly popular all through Persia. Merchants delivered these boards from almost every place.

The early edition of the game came from different sort of materials. Depending on the availability of resources by the owner, chessmen could come from a simple inexpensive set made out of bones. The more luxurious ones were created by intricate wood carving. Among the common hardwood used by craftsmen are ebony and rosewood. The use of Ivory was also in demand because it gives a more refined finishing.

Luckily, a number of artifacts of this Persian-made boards are still being kept today. These were found somewhere in Uzbekistan and are still in very good form. All in all, there are seven pieces found.

The game widely extended in the entire Western Europe and Russia during the early parts of the nineteenth century. By the fifteenth century, it extensively spread throughout the rest of Europe. At some times, it was able to endure numerous challenges and problems with the Christian Faith.

The game might be considered as one a very ancient game and the most favorite among all the board games. Stemming from the curiosity of man, people got interested about where did chess originate. It is a pleasing to know that we learn something about how this most-loved recreation evolved from India down to Persia to Europe and to the rest of the world.
