Within the years that I've existed, there is one experience which has left a long lasting lesson in my existence. It was the time when I celebrated Christmas together with the children who suffered cancer.
Many individuals must all agree with me that the Holidays is best enjoyed by children. I remember a passage in the Scriptures which says, "Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them. For the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children." I guess that Jesus might want people to enjoy, particularly the children, on His birthday.
Nevertheless, only some children are quite blissful during Christmas day. There are those who are embroiled in some war. There are also those who don't have their friends and family with them and then there are those who are suffering. Among the various kinds of health conditions on this planet, cancer is definitely amongst the most difficult ailments for a child to have. It prevents kids to play, to go to school, to have a normal life and at times it prevents kids to live.
At the time I had the opportunity to spend Christmas with the kids who are suffering from cancer, it transformed my view about life in general. Many people may think that a very sick or dying kid won't like Christmas. However, this wasn't the picture I found amongst these kids. They actually love Christmas like they weren't sick. It was like as if, Christmas time itself was a gift to savor more than costly toys, personalised Christmas cards or delicious food. This made me think that maybe this was exactly why Jesus loved kids. It was because children can see more than suffering. This was mainly because kids could live in spite of how complex things are. This was simply because children do not think twice rejoicing on Jesus' birthday no matter how hard life gets.
People today get annoyed at so many things. We come to feel low whenever our expenditures are more than our earnings or perhaps when our boss doesn't choose the business Christmas cards design that we made or when the traffic is really heavy. These are just small things as compared to what a kid with cancer needs to endure everyday.
Spending Christmas with these children has not only taught me the greatest Christmas gift that was gifted to us but at the same time the way we should live our everyday life. Our day-to-day lives might be full of trials but we should stay strong and live our lives exactly how it should be lived.
